Over the course of sixteen seasons and nearly 200 episodes, The History Channel’s Ancient Aliens has tackled subjects ranging from underwater alien temples to Nazi experiments with alien technology and even alien involvement in the American Civil War, but for many of us, the series can be summed up with the image seen at the top of this article. Ufologist Giorgio A. Tsoukalos has become the face of the series and spawned countless memes, but who knows what we’re in store for now that Ancient Aliens will be heading to the big-screen.
That’s right, an Ancient Aliens movie is currently in development with Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg set to produce the project, with Heald also tapped to direct. Heard, Hurwitz, and Schlossberg are best known as the creators and showrunners of Netflix’s Cobra Kai series. It’s not clear exactly how Ancient Aliens will make the transformation to theatrical feature, but Legendary Entertainment said that the story will be “a two-handed, globe-spanning adventure featuring ancient sites and artifacts, confronting the theories and questions raised by the popular docuseries.” Luke Ryan will write the script for the Ancient Aliens movie as well as serve as executive producer. In a statement, Josh Heald said:
Helming my first feature with this same dream team who believed in me very early in my career is incredibly special. My partners and I are fired up to produce this epic story with Mary, Cale, and Luke. It’s a homecoming for me personally — and another bold step for Counterbalance Entertainment.
The third season of Cobra Kai debuted on Netflix earlier this year and has already been renewed for a fourth season.
