The paranoia thriller Alone with You, which marks the feature writing and directing debut of Emily Bennett and Justin Brooks, won’t be having its world premiere until Monday, September 27th at Fantastic Fest, but the folks at Dark Star Pictures have already picked up the North American distribution rights. Dark Star is planning to give Alone with You a theatrical release in New York and Los Angeles sometime in early 2022. The film is also expected to reach the big screen in additional markets across the country, before heading to digital and VOD. Bennett stars in the film alongside genre icon Barbara Crampton.
The story Bennett and Brooks crafted follows
a young woman (Bennett) as she painstakingly prepares a romantic homecoming for her girlfriend. As she goes about her task, her apartment begins to feel more and more like a tomb as voices, shadows, and hallucinations reveal a truth she has been unwilling to face.
Dora Madison (Friday Night Lights) and Emma Myles (Orange is the New Black) are also in the cast.
Alone with You was produced by Andrew Corkin and Theo James under their Untapped banner.
The directors had this to say about the distribution deal:
We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Dark Star for the release of our debut feature Alone With You. We share in their independent spirit and interest in challenging the status quo.”
Dark Star’s Michael Repsch added,
Emily and Justin have crafted a truly unique horror film that utilizes atmosphere and human emotion to drive a narrative of terror that will hit closer to home than most of us would like to admit. This is a horror film that is much more than horror, spotlighting incredible female performances, diversity and a feeling of claustrophobia that could not be more relevant in our current society.”
Anything with Barbara Crampton in it has my attention, so I will probably be checking Alone with You out when it’s released next year. A couple images from the film can be seen below:
