Renee Montoya is returning to Gotham City for the third season of The CW’s Batwoman, and a familiar face will be stepping into her shoes. Deadline has reported that Victoria Cartagena is set to play Montoya in the upcoming season of Batwoman, after previously playing the character in the first half of Fox’s Gotham series back in 2014.
Victoria Cartagena’s Renee Montoya is described as a former Gotham City Police Department officer who left the force when she could no longer stomach the corruption inside the department. “She now runs the ‘freak division,’ which hasn’t seen a lot of action… until now,” reads Deadline’s description. “Righteous and pragmatic, and LGBTQ+, she’s a woman with a very personal (and mysterious) mission to help clean the streets of Gotham in the right way, by whatever means necessary.” Although Cartagena has previously played the character, this version isn’t expected to be the same one as the universes aren’t connected. For her part, the actress is thrilled to reprise the role in a different universe.
