It’s that time of year when HOCUS POCUS is on heavy rotation in homes as it has become a true Halloween favorite for fans. Those very fans have also been longing for a sequel, with all three of the original Sanderson sisters on board and it looks like their Halloween dreams are about to come true. One of those original stars, Bette Midler, has confirmed that when the sequel gets made, she’ll have her movie sisters along for the ride.

While speaking with Fox 5’s “Good Day New York“, coming to us via “ET Canada“, Midler confirms that she, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy will return to play Winifred, Sarah, and Mary, respectively:

“They want to make a movie, they’ve asked us if we were interested and of course all of us said yes. I’m game, I’m totally game.”

The trio previously reunited for the upcoming one-night-only virtual event In Search of the Sanderson Sisters, which will go to benefit the New York Restoration Project. In terms of sequels that fans want, it seems like fans of HOCUS POCUS are down for a witchy return as long as the three original stars came back, and not just as mere cameos. Judging from Midler’s enthusiastic reaction, it looks like the stars have aligned for the Sanderson sisters to make a worthy comeback. Not much is known about the sequel but it is in development at Disney+ with Adam Shankman tapped to direct a screenplay by Jen D’Angelo.

HOCUS POCUS follows a villainous comedic trio of witches who are inadvertently resurrected by a teenage boy in Salem, Massachusetts, on Halloween night. The film wasn’t a critical or true financial success when it was first released in July of 1993, reportedly losing $16.5 million for Disney during its theatrical run. Things truly turned around in the years since, largely through annual airings on Disney Channel and Freeform, as the film has been consistently rediscovered by audiences. This has caused a yearly spike in sales for the film throughout the years around the Halloween season and this has helped make the film a huge cult classic.
