Dominic Purcell had a very emotional weekend. The actor took to his Instagram in a since-deleted post to announce that he was leaving DC’s Legends of Tomorrow ahead of season six and it didn’t sound like things were ending on a civil note between Purcell and The CW.
Purcell, who plays Mick Rory/Heat Wave) on the show, announced on Friday that he has “no interest” in returning a series regular. From there Purcell got pretty personal about his exit and he certainly didn’t mince words:
“Deal isn’t done. I have no interest, [whatever] cash they throw on the corporate level. I’m walking away from @cw_legendsoftomorrow. It’s been a total pleasure and a humbling experience bringing @dccomics iconic character #heatwave (aka) MICK RORY to life. I smashed this character — not an actor in the world could have done better. The studio does not care. The actors[‘] work ethic and talent must give them the confidence to question authority. Much love to all. It’s not lost on me how very fortunate I am.”
Perhaps realizing he may have said a bit too much, Purcell came back to Instagram on Saturday and cleaned things up a bit. The actor confirmed that he will “come back periodically” as part of a handshake deal with executive producer/co-showrunner Phil Klemmer. Ending his new post on a more positive note, Purcell adds “Big thanks to the cast and crew and all the awesome relationships I’ve made over the years. Thank you all. Dom”
Season six of Legends of Tomorrow is set to begin on May 2, 2021. The popular CW series was renewed for a seventh season back in February and a few days after that announcement Purcell posted another since-deleted Instagram post that he would be leaving at the end of season 7. Many thought this was because he was coming to an end of his contract but Purcell went quiet on the matter after deleting the post. Perhaps Purcell has issues with rage blackouts on Instagram.
