Update: Deadline has now reported that Hugh Grant (The Undoing) is in talks to join the cast of Guy Ritchie’s Five Eyes. Should the deal close, Grant would join Jason Statham, Aubrey Plaza, Josh Hartnett, and Cary Elwes in the spy thriller.
After completing his role as Wyatt Walker for John Swab’s Ida Red, Josh Hartnett has signed on to star alongside Jason Statham in Guy Ritchie’s Five Eyes. Hartnett is the latest to join the upcoming spy thriller after Cary Elwes and Aubrey Plaza were said to be cast in the Miramax/STX feature. This will be Hartnett’s second collaboration with Ritchie after working on Wrath of Man, which also happens to star Jason Statham.
Written by Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies (THE GENTLEMEN), Five Eyes follows an MI6 guns-and-steel agent (Statham) who is recruited by the global intelligence alliance ‘Five Eyes’ to track down and stop the sale of a deadly new weapons technology that threatens to disrupt the world order. Reluctantly paired with CIA high-tech expert, Fortune sets off on a globe-trotting mission where he will have to use all of his charm, ingenuity, and stealth to track down and infiltrate billionaire arms brokers.
Hartnett was recently seen starring alongside Kevin Hart and John Travolta for the Quibi comedy series Die Hart, before moving on to Ritchie’s Wrath of Man. The latter project from Ritchie centers on H, a cold and mysterious character working at a cash truck company responsible for moving hundreds of millions of dollars around Los Angeles each week. Ever the busy actor, Hartnett can soon be found in James Franco’s The Long Home, which tells the tale of a young contractor who is hired to build a honky-tonk in Tennessee by the man who killed his father.
Who else do you think will be added to Five Eyes before cameras start to roll? More Ritchie film alums, perhaps? What about Brad Pitt, Henry Golding, or Michelle Dockery? Only time will tell, and we’ll be sure to let you know as we hear more.
