Oh Hell No, Jack Black, Ice Cube, comedy, Kitao Sakurai

Of all the comedic pairing to come out of Hollywood, I must admit that I did not see this one coming. Smoke on the street says that Jack Black is in talks to star with Ice Cube in Sony Pictures’ comedy Oh Hell No. Bad Trip helmer Kitao Sakurai will direct, with Matt Tolmach producing through his Matt Tolmach Productions with Black and Roz Music.

Plot details are, of course, are being kept under wraps. However, we do know that the script comes from Scot Armstrong (Ols School), Tracy Oliver (Girls Trip), Jessica Gao (She-Hulk), and Rodney Rothman (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse). Looking at their credits, that’s a solid writing team.

Black is currently filming Eli Roth’s Borderlands, in which he voices the mouthy robot companion Claptrap. His last big-screen appearance was for 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level. Ugh! That feels like forever ago, doesn’t it? At least some theaters are beginning to open up, and we can get some fresh blood pumping through cinemas, right? It’s been a long time coming, and I don’t know about you, but I welcome 2021’s overstuff theatrical release schedule with open arms.

Ice Cube currently has several acting projects scheduled, including a role in Rachel Morrison’s Flint Strong, which tells the story of Claressa ‘T-Rex’ Shields, a boxer from Flint, Michigan, who trained to become the first woman in her country’s history to win an Olympic gold medal in the sport.

How Sakurai’s Oh Hell No plans to take advantage of Black and Cube’s comedic chops has yet to be seen, though I must admit that I’m cautiously optimistic about this one.
