Ahsoka, rangers of the new republic, jon favreau

Star Wars fans have been hyped ever since Disney Investor Day brought the news that ten more series set in the Star Wars universe would be released within the next few years on Disney+. Two of the series that were eventually announced on the day were the Ahsoka spinoff series, featuring Rosario Dawson in the titular role after making her live-action debut on season two of The Mandalorian, and Rangers of the New Republic. Jon Favreau was recently a guest on “Good Morning America” where he also gave details about The Book of Boba Fett that was revealed during the season two finale of The Mandalorian, and while he didn’t give away a lot of details on the two new shows, he did reveal the timeline in reach the shows will be set.

“I’m working with my partner Dave Filoni, who is this fantastic producing partner, writer, who I met when I did a voice on The Clone Wars. We met up at the Skywalker Ranch. We’ve been working together on [The Mandalorian]. He’s doing Ahsoka, which he’s writing right now. Then we also have Rangers of the New Republic. All of them take place in the similar timeline here that is right after RETURN OF THE JEDI.”

It’s not a lot, but it’s certainly something for Star Wars fans to mull over until we learn more. Ahsoka and Rangers of the New Republic taking place shortly after the events of Return of the Jedi puts it a bit in line with The Mandalorian, which takes place roughly five years after the events of that film as well. Lucasfilm has previously said that Rangers of the New Republic “will intersect with future stories and culminate into a climatic story event” so it seems like all of these shows are on a similar trajectory to tell an even bigger story.

Dave Filoni writing the Ahsoka show should be good news to longtime fans. Filoni was the main creative mind behind The Clone Wars alongside George Lucas, where the character made her debut. Filoni is invested in the character and it’s his baby so it would make sense that he takes on a show that expands on her narrative. In addition to Filoni, it’s good that Jon Favreau seems to be heavily involved in all of this universe because he has a fresh grasp on the material while also respecting what Star Wars fans seem to love. Can you imagine what he could do with the movies? I don’t want to jinx a good thing so I’m more than happy that he’s involved in the TV side of things and is making these projects as good as he can by also bringing in top-notch talent to gives them a strong creative push.

What would YOU like to see from the new Star Wars series?
