Focus Features have released the first trailer for Belfast, the latest film written and directed by Kenneth Branagh. With its sumptuous black and white photography and a story that will surely pull at the heartstrings, Belfast already looks to be a major contender for awards season.
Belfast tells the story of love, laughter and loss in one boy’s childhood, amid the music and social tumult of the late 1960s in Belfast. Caitriona Balfe (Outlander) and Jamie Dornan (The Fall) play a glamorous working-class couple caught in the mayhem, while Judi Dench (Artemis Fowl) and Ciaran Hinds (Zach Snyder’s Justice League) play the wry and spry grandparents. Born and raised in Belfast, Kenneth Branagh has said that it’s his “most personal film,” adding that “it’s about coming home – a dramatic journey of excitement, emotion and humour.” Belfast recently premiered at the Telluride Film Festival, and will also screen at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival. The film will then land in theaters on November 12, 2021. What are your thoughts on the Belfast trailer?
Although Kenneth Branagh doesn’t appear in Belfast, he will be starring in his next directorial outing: Death on the Nile, the big-screen sequel to Murder on the Orient Express. Branagh will once again be playing famed Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, who is now tasked with solving a murder when one of the passengers is killed on the S.S. Karnak. In addition to Branagh, Death on the Nile also stars Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Russell Brand, Letitia Wright, Tom Bateman, Rose Leslie, Dawn French, and more. After several delays due to the pandemic, Death on the Nile is currently slated to hit theaters on February 11, 2022.
