With its slick style, highly choreographed fights, and game-changing bullet-time technology, there’s little question that THE MATRIX changed the face of the industry upon its release in 1999, and if Jessica Henwick is correct, the next MATRIX movie could change the industry all over again.
Lana Wachowski is currently in production on THE MATRIX 4, the first installment of the franchise since the release of THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS in 2003, and Jessica Henwick recently spoke with ComicBook.com to tease that Wachowski could be ready to blow our minds all over again.
There are definitely moment on set where Yahya [Abdul-Mateen II] and I look at each other and we just go, ‘Matrix 4.’ Those pinch me moments. Yeah. Lana [Wachowski] is doing some really interesting things on a technical level in the same way that you know, she created a style back then. I think she’s going to change the industry again with this film. There’s some camera rigs that I’ve never seen before that we’re using. That’s probably all I can say for that.
This isn’t the first time that we’ve heard of Lana Wachowski doing something visually new with THE MATRIX 4, as Neil Patrick Harris spoke on SirusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show last month and said, ” I think she has a great inclusive energy and her style has shifted visually from what she had done to what she is currently doing.” In addition to Jessica Henwick and Neil Patrick Harris, THE MATRIX 4 will also feature the return of Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Daniel Bernhardt, and Jada Pinkett Smith, as well as franchise newcomers Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jonathan Groff, Priyanka Chopra, and more.
THE MATRIX 4 is currently slated to hit theaters on December 22, 2021.
