Coming 2 America, Eddie Murphy, Wesley Snipes, comedy, Amazon

Yesterday Amazon debuted a batch of first-look images for COMING 2 AMERICA, giving fans their first glimpse of Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, Shari Headley, James Earl Jones, and more who are set to return for the Craig Brewster-directed sequel. Today, we’ve got another round of pics that introduce us to new and extended members of the royal family, such as  Jermaine Fowler’s Lavelle, Kiki Layne’s Meeka, and Leslie Jones as Lavelle’s mother. We also get our first-look at Wesley Snipes, who plays General Izzi in the new film.

Directed by Craig Brewer (Black Snake Moan, Hustle & Flow) from a screenplay by Kenya Barris and Barry W. Blaustein, and David Sheffield, the sequel welcomes the Zamundan royal family back for another fish-out-of-water comedy treat. Set in the lush and royal country of Zamunda, newly-crowned King Akeem (Eddie Murphy) and his trusted confidante Semmi (Arsenio Hall) embark on an all-new hilarious adventure that has them traversing the globe from their great African nation to the borough of Queens, New York – where it all began.

Joining Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall for the hotly-anticipated sequel are actors Shari Headley, John Amos, Louie Anderson, Jermaine Fowler, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, Kiki Layne, and Shari Headley, with Wesley Snipes and James Earl Jones. The film also stars John Amos, Teyana Taylor, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Paul Bates, Nomzamo Mbatha, and Bella Murphy.

Hopefully, with so many images from the film now being out in the wild, Amazon will drop a trailer for the upcoming comedy sooner rather than later. I know that fans of the original, myself included, are hoping for great things from this long-gestating sequel. It already feels great to see so many key players from John Landis’ 1988 original reprising their iconic roles, so here’s hoping that the new film has the story and laughs to match the excitement.
