A few weeks ago, we shared the teaser trailer for Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin, the “unexpected retooling” of the Paranormal Activity franchise that will be released through the Paramount Plus streaming service on October 29th. Now the full trailer has arrived online to give fans a deeper look into just how different this film is going to be from previous Paranormal Activity movies. You can watch the trailer in the embed above, and a poster for Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin can be seen below.
With the release of the full trailer and the poster also comes an official synopsis. Directed by Will Eubank (Underwater) from a screenplay by Christopher Landon, Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin tells the following story:
A documentary filmmaker follows Margot (Emily Bader), as she heads to a secluded Amish community in the hopes of meeting and learning about her long-lost mother and extended family. Following a string of strange occurrences and discoveries, she soon realizes this community that welcomed them into their home might be hiding something sinister…
Emily Bader is joined in the cast by Roland Buck III, Dan Lippert, and Henry Ayres-Brown.
Franchise creator Oren Peli produced the film with Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions. Screenwriter Landon served as executive producer alongside Steven Schneider and Jenny Hinkey. Landon previously wrote the second, third, and fourth Paranormal Activity films, and also wrote and directed Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones.
I haven’t seen half of the Paranormal Activity movies, I stopped paying attention to this franchise early on. To me, just going by the trailers, Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin looks to be a much more interesting movie than the previous franchise entries that I skipped. I might actually give this one a chance. An evil cult living in Amish country is an idea I can get behind.
