The Dark Knight is going back to the swingin’ ’70s in a new animated film, BATMAN: SOUL OF THE DRAGON. Directed by Sam Liu, with a script by Jeremy Adams, Batman’s latest animated adventure finds the Caped Crusader (David Giuntoli) pulled into a conspiracy alongside his former martial arts colleagues. As exciting as that is, no Batman film would be complete without a series of exciting guest characters mixing it up with the World’s Greatest Detective, and so the movie also features Michael Jai White as Ben Turner/Bronze Tiger, with Mark Dacascos as Red Dragon, and Kelly Hu as Lady Shiva. James Hong also stars as the voice of O-Sensei.
Here’s the official synopsis from Warner Bros. Animation:
Set in the midst of the swinging 1970s, this Elseworlds adventure finds Bruce Wayne training under a master sensei. It is here that Bruce, along with other elite students, is forged in the fire of the martial arts discipline. The lifelong bonds they form will be put to the test when a deadly menace arises from their past. It will take the combined efforts of Batman, world-renowned martial artists Richard Dragon, Ben Turner, and Lady Shiva and their mentor O-Sensei to battle the monsters of this world and beyond!
Rated R for “some violence” by the MPA, Batman: Soul of the Dragon looks to feature plenty of flashbacks to Bruce’s time as a student of martial arts. The trailer also teases the arrival of Kobra, an international terrorist and mad scientist who delights in causing trouble for the heroes of the DCEU with the help of his loyal cult followers.
Batman: Soul of the Dragon will swoop onto digital on January 12, 2021, and 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack and Blu-ray on January 26, 2021.
