Tiger woods swinging a golf club

Tiger Woods is under emergency care after being involved in a car crash this morning. The legendary golfer was the only one hurt in the incident. Woods’ car rolled over and trapped him inside.

Woods was injured in Ranchos Palos Verdes, though we don’t yet know what caused the incident. The crash was bad enough that he had to be extracted from the vehicle after fire crews used the jaws of life to pry open the car.

LA County Sheriffs confirmed the story, reporting that it was a single car crash. “On February 23, 2021, at approximately 7:12 AM, LASD responded to a single vehicle roll-over traffic collision on the border of Rolling Hills Estates and Ranchos Palos Verdes,” the officials wrote in a statement.

The statement also added that Woods’ vehicle “sustained major damage” and that he was “extricated from the wreck with the ‘jaws of life’” before being transported via ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment. Gossip Cop will continue to monitor the situation and update this article with any new developments.

UPDATE: MSNBC provided a helicopter shot of Tiger Woods car after the crash and it’s pretty unsettling.

Tiger Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg, confirmed the report with Golf Digest, telling the magazine, “He is currently in surgery,” for “multiple leg injuries,” adding, “and we thank you for your privacy and support.”

UPDATE 2: TMZ is now reporting that a source in the Los Angeles Fire Department has clarified that the jaws of life were not used on Tiger Woods’ vehicle. Given the overhead footage of the crash, it seems as though Woods was safely extracted through the windshield and was coherent enough to talk with first responders. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will be holding a press conference at 3 p.m. PST to discuss the incident.

UPDATE 3: Sheriff Alex Villanueva said that there would be a traffic report when all the facts are gathered about the crash of the 2021 Genesis, which could be in a number of days or weeks. A Los Angeles Fire Department representative said that Woods was extricated by Los Angeles Fire Department personnel and added that a Halligan tool — a prying tool — and an ax were used instead. The jaws of life were not used. Woods was given stable condition with serious injuries before being transported to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, as it also serves as a trauma center.

During the Q&A, Sheriff Villanueva said that Woods was conscious when they arrived and that responding officers saw no signs of impairment and declined to speculate about any other possibilities. He said that traffic investigators would determine to what degree Woods’ speed affected the crash. He also said that Woods was not able to get up on his own and that he requested someone to contact a member of his team after getting to the hospital.
