Two of my favorite recent genre flicks are the one, two punch of HAPPY DEATH DAY and HAPPY DEATH DAY 2U. The Christopher Landon directed features had an incredible lead thanks to the very talented Jessica Rothe, as well as a fun spin of the slasher flick. And I’m happy to say that Mr. Landon has upped the ante with his latest, the bodyswap flick FREAKY. While this twisted take on such movies like FREAKY FRIDAY has the humor and the fun, it also proudly wears an R-rating for a bit of gory goodness, unlike his previous features. One scene, in particular, would make Jason Voorhees very proud. And if that wasn’t enough, this smartly written flick offers up two terrific leads courtesy of Kathryn Newton and Vince Vaughn. Getting freaky is ridiculously fun with this feature.

Recently, we had the fantastic opportunity to chat with Mr. Vaughn and Ms. Newton, as well as their co-stars, Celeste O’Connor and Misha Osherovich. While speaking to both Vince and Kathryn, it was a blast to hear what he had to say about taking on a horror film. He also talked about working with Mr. Landon in a Blumhouse production, as well as his work in BRAWL IN CELL BLOCK 99 and DRAGGED ACROSS CONCRETE. As for his co-star, she opened up about working with Mr. Landon on this, as well as appearing in a little film the filmmaker wrote called PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4. It was clear that these two enjoyed working together, and that energy came out in the interviews. Check those out at the head of the article.

For O’Connor and Osherovich, the two chatted about the strangeness of doing interviews on Zoom in the current state of the world. They also discussed their relationship with the genre, as she appears in the upcoming GHOSTBUSTERS AFTERLIFE, and he was on the series NOS4A2. If you are looking for a wonderfully wild horror ride, I cannot recommend FREAKY enough. It’s got the gore, it’s got the smarts, and it has Vince Vaughn in one of my favorite roles I’ve ever seen from him. If you are ready for a body-swapping great time, check out FREAKY this Friday the 13th in select theatres and VOD.
